Going digital for a better client experience

By PEXA • Nov 2019

“There are clear benefits of electronic settlements for our clients – this should be the way that all settlements are done in the future,” Stuart Naylor, Managing Director at Macrossan & Amiet Solicitors.

As one of the oldest firms in Queensland, Macrossan & Amiet Solicitors prides itself on consistency, serving the Mackay and Whitsunday region and beyond. A customer-first philosophy was the driving factor for the firm to adopt PEXA, Australia’s electronic conveyancing solution, providing clients with increased efficiency, certainty, flexibility and security.

“There is the time saving element for us, with less calls and travel, but there’s probably more time savings for our clients. Clients no longer have to wait for bank cheques to clear because with PEXA they have access to funds once settlement is complete and can direct them to where they need to go. This is especially important when clients are simultaneously selling and buying property,” said Stuart Naylor, Managing Director at Macrossan & Amiet Solicitors.

Quicker access to sale proceeds is just one of the benefits of electronic conveyancing. Buyers have the added security that lodgement happens as part of settlement.

“There could be delays when you have to physically lodge with the land titles office and there’s a risk that the buyer is left unprotected. This doesn’t happen in PEXA.”

This online solution provides firms with the means to help their clients where it would previously not have been possible.

Senior Associate Danielle Fitzgerald shared, “We had a client that needed a mortgage released quite urgently as they had a refinance taking place the next day. Through PEXA we were able to organise this within the day so that the settlement could proceed as planned. This would not have been possible if we were settling in paper.”

Mr. Naylor added, “With a settlement done in paper, organising documents and cheques would often occur in the morning and with all that coordination happening, settlements usually fall in the afternoon. On PEXA when everyone does their part online in the Workspace, the settlement can happen in the morning and clients can move in that afternoon.”

For firms who have yet to come on board, Ms. Fitzgerald shares, “You’ve got to try it to fully understand how PEXA actually works. Give it a go, more than once and you’ll soon be able to pass on the benefits of digital conveyancing to your clients.”
