PEXA supports the Big Issue

By PEXA • Feb 2018

PEXA Group Executive, Mike Cameron, dropped tools today in support of International Vendor Week, selling copies of the Big Issue with vendor-comrade, Phil, outside PEXA’s headquarters.

The Big Issue is dedicated to creating and supporting work opportunities for homeless, marginalised and disadvantaged people. Sales of the Big Issue magazine helps people in these situations earn a meaningful income and International Vendor Week gives everyone the opportunity to celebrate the publication’s Vendors.

In this light, Mike donned his Big Issue vest and joined Phil at the corner of Collins Square.

“What an experience! Phil is a local Big Issue Vendor; a familiar face for a lot of nearby businesses. It was a pleasure to be shown the ropes by him today and gain a deeper understanding of his day-to-day work life,” Mike shared.

“A key element of PEXA’s culture is giving back to our community. We consider it our responsibility, especially for those experiencing homelessness – they’re part of the overall property ecosystem, like PEXA.”

Each copy of the Big Issue sold by Mike raised funds for Vendor activities, such as fortnightly breakfasts and more importantly raised awareness for Phil as he continues to sell the Big Issue in the area.

“Working with Mike today was really fun. He sold out of all his editions in 30 minutes! Now, more and more people are aware of what I, and other Big Issue Vendors do and why,” Phil said.

The Big Issue and PEXA are already closely connected. Homes for Homes, another initiative dedicated to combatting homelessness in Australia – facilitated by the Big Issue – has teamed up with PEXA. Simply put, Homes for Homes allows home owners to volunteer 0.1% of the sale of their property i.e. $500 donation on a $500,000 property sale. Their donation goes directly towards reducing Australia’s housing crisis by increasing the availability of social and affordable housing.

“We recognised early that PEXA could help. Now, once a property owner has agreed to make a donation, Homes for Homes caveats can be lodged online via PEXA.”

“Homes for Homes are part of the property industry’s extended network. The entire team is looking forward to seeing the affect PEXA’s technology will have on one of Australia’s most pressing social issues.”

The first Homes for Homes caveat is expected within the coming weeks. Visit the Big Issue and Homes for Homes to find out more.
