Jack, a lawyer in PEXA’s in-house legal team, has taken full advantage of our flexible work arrangements in the lead up to taking his parental leave, after welcoming his first child earlier this year.
“Part of the reason I joined PEXA was its excellent family benefits, many of which I hadn’t seen elsewhere in the market,” shared Jack.
“My partner and I had our first child at the start of 2024 and she has been off work caring for him. I knew I wanted to spend an extended period caring for him full time to develop our relationship, develop my role as a father and ensure my partner’s break from her business was manageable.
“I’m really excited to now switch with her, using the 20 weeks primary career leave (at full pay) provided by PEXA. He is 9 months now, happy, laughs a lot and seems to be a bit cheeky, and I’m really looking forward to lots of playing, going on adventures and spending time together.”

In addition to the parental leave, Jack shared how PEXA’s ‘Flex First’ hybrid working model helped to support his transition to a full-time carer role.
“PEXA’s Flex First policy has also allowed me to work predominately from home in the lead up to my leave which has been invaluable for adjusting to this huge change, particularly early on through the sleepless nights and while my partner was recovering from the birth.
“It’s great that PEXA supports dads to take up primary caring. Beyond the personal benefits to PEXA’s employees it also plays an important role in gender equity in the workplace, helping reduce the potential career impacts on women from extended periods out of the workforce.
With the 30 days of “flex leave” awaiting his return, Jack can confidently transition back to work while maintaining a healthy work-life balance. “This allows me to work a shorter week on a full-time salary. It’s another great and well-thought-out benefit that helps me balance this change and be energised both at work and home knowing I have this support.”
