Kelly Legal’s Property Law Centre shares how being equipped to settle property online has enabled the firm to accommodate unique client circumstances

Settling property anytime, anywhere, effortlessly and efficiently – that’s the service Kelly Legal’s Property Law Centre is able to provide its clients, thanks to its use of Property Exchange Australia (PEXA).

Industry members are now completing an increasing number of property transactions electronically in Mackay and across Queensland for clients from all over Australia.

This method eliminates the need to physically attend settlement – instead, lawyers, conveyancers and financial institutions collaborate online to execute settlement.

Operations Manager Steven Morgan shared how being equipped to settle property online has enabled the firm to accommodate unique client circumstances.

“The Property Law Centre prides itself on handling all manner of property matters for our clients, from the smallest conveyancing to the largest development and teaming with PEXA means that we can continue to deliver consistently high quality conveyancing and legal services to our clients, by providing easy and transparent processes for buyers and sellers.

“We’ve had a few instances where we’ve pulled a rabbit out of the hat because the settlement’s been with PEXA. In one instance we had a party in Perth and the other in Darwin. In the past, you’d have to navigate a physical transfer, with travel and mailing of documents. Given our capabilities today, we managed to complete that as a PEXA settlement quite easily, by getting them to do a verification of identity at their respective locations.”

Though clients are becoming increasingly tech-driven, the switch to digital settlements is still ongoing in the state. Steven noted that this came as a surprise to one of the firm’s clients.

“I had one client who was from New Zealand and she was a bit bewildered that we still settle in paper because New Zealand’s been doing it electronically for some time now. Today, Property Law Centre takes the view that by default, a property settlement will be electronic.”
