From one to one hundred: Roger Scott puts his clients first

By PEXA • Feb 2019

AICSA’s Vice President, Roger Scott, discusses how his firm’s ongoing commitment to e-Conveyancing is delivering benefits to his staff and their clients.

This summer, South Australia is experiencing extreme heatwaves with Adelaide reaching up to 46 degrees. If there was any activity that you’d want to avoid, it’d be travelling to a settlement room wedged with all your peers. Thankfully, Roger Scott, an experienced practitioner and vice president of the Australian Institute of Conveyancing South Australia (AICSA), was able to avoid that experience by settling electronically from his office.

Roger contributed to South Australia’s first electronic settlement, where he acted for the vendor. Since then, the industry has dramatically transformed and he has now contributed to over a hundred workspaces on PEXA, Australia’s e-Conveyancing network.

“PEXA has been a key component of our complete electronic upgrade. Conveyancing software has become cloud based, emails too, and if a conveyancer can carry a laptop, there is no need to be bound to the office.”

Not only has Roger benefitted from greater process efficiencies, a reduced workload and a reduction in delays, but is also able to offer his clients a positive transaction experience. For most Australians, buying a home is the biggest and most stressful transaction they will ever make, it’s their largest asset.

“I knew that our embracing of technology would pass benefits to the end consumer – where it matters most.”

As the technological world progresses, customers expect digital services for greater convenience and ease of use, including innovations such as online banking and digital content streaming. So, why should buying or selling a house be any different? With PEXA, the end consumer has access to cleared funds faster, will not have to worry about lost documents and can expect greater certainty that their property will be successfully settled on time. Furthermore, homeowners are protected under the PEXA Residential Seller Guarantee which provides protection to sellers in the event of a certain kind of fraud.

As PEXA’s network expands across Australia, more practitioners are embracing electronic settlements. Roger has witnessed this industry change and advises those that aren’t yet registered, to do so sooner rather than later.

“Ask PEXA for assistance to commence transacting, you’ll quickly get the feel of it.”
