The property industry’s next generation of conveyancers will emerge PEXA-trained.
Melbourne Polytechnic’s Francis Hill, Leading Teacher, Real Estate and Legal Services and Arthur Novatsis of A G Novatsis Lawyers have introduced PEXA into their Advanced Diploma of Conveyancing classroom.
Francis describes PEXA as potentially putting education into the palm of his students hands and how a full education in conveyancing now includes online property transactions.
The PEXA student
As government-lead digital transformation dates approach, the time to transition to online conveyancing is now. With this in mind, the industry’s subsequent conveyancers must be ready for digital property transactions.
Leading the way for his students, Francis said, “My students would prefer to learn the digital process especially when the industry is heading that way. Being trained in PEXA as well as the paper process will give them a strong foothold when they complete their studies. This extra skill will also position them as more desirable candidates for recruiting practices.”
Learning power
Not only is conveyancing turning digital but so is education. Educators are feeling the pressure to move online and even students in classroom-based courses want more and more of their learning materials online using platforms like Moodle.
“Students want education in the palm of their hands and PEXA has potentially achieved that. My students will be able to access all their PEXA learning materials in class as a simulated workplace and extend their learning even further on the e-Conveyancing Community – a resource that I see will be an invaluable learning tool”, Francis explains.
But, before this can happen, the trainers at Melbourne Polytechnic had to be trained.
Training the trainer
Jemma Hirst, PEXA’s Training Manager, spent two days with Francis and Arthur ’training the trainer’. This two-day intensive took the pair through every aspect of the PEXA platform and what their students will need to know.
Francis had this to say about his training experience, “At first, two days seemed extensive but in fact we needed them, and it was a significant help. Jemma was a very effective and professional trainer. She made the content easy to consume and when I sat in front of PEXA’s training platform again a few days later, I sat there with confidence. I’m excited to bring PEXA to my students and build on its training over the coming years. I can also walk into my classroom confidently, knowing I’m giving my students a complete education.”
