PEXA conquers Everest

By PEXA • Nov 2017

Dentons took flexibility and innovation 5,610 meters above sea level

After nine gruelling days of altitude sickness and exposure to the harsh elements of trekking to Mount Everest Base Camp, Mark Blair, Financial Product and Services National Client Relationship Manager at Dentons, popped open his laptop and created a PEXA Workspace.

The iconic climb to one of the most hostile environments on the planet – for a glimpse at the top of the world – has always been on Mark’s bucket list. But how did PEXA become part of the agenda?

“We identified PEXA as being the future of Australian conveyancing many years ago,” Mark said. “I felt this was the perfect opportunity to illustrate how PEXA has made e-Conveyancing simple and accessible anywhere in the world. So, while my climbing comrades celebrated at the peak I created a Workspace with only a mobile data connection – why not!”

Dentons is an e-Conveyancing veteran; being heavily involved in industry transformation since its inception.

”I’m truly a believer. The fact is that it’s the only way forward for our industry. I was a paralegal for 12 years. There was no word of a paperless firm back then and when e-Conveyancing did come along it just felt right. We’re not jurisdiction-based, so as an international firm PEXA is an absolute lifesaver for us. We don’t have to appoint agents, it’s more cost effective and we’ve got more control and visibility – it’s a no-brainer.”

Perched on top of Mount Kala Patthar in Nepal 5,610 meters above sea level, Mark wasn’t the first person to conquer this, but he can confidently say he’s the first explorer to open a PEXA Workspace overlooking the peak of Mt Everest.

“Two of Dentons core operating principles are providing innovative solutions for our clients and providing flexible work practices for our staff. We are known for not only innovating and bringing our own disruptive technologies to the market such as electronic exchange of contracts but also as early adaptors of new technology within the legal industry. My trek was the perfect opportunity to put those two core values of innovation and flexibility to the test.”

Resisting the urge to ’call the chopper’ Mark and his fellow adventurers made their way home. Thirteen days in total, one of life’s goals accomplished and an Everest Workspace in his pocket, Mark has only a positive outlook for the future.

“The platform is constantly evolving to cater to the industry’s needs. We have seen a number of our recommendations applied to PEXA including the new efficient signing feature which allows us to view and sign all our Workspaces that have either documents and/or Financial Settlement Schedules to sign. We can’t wait to start using it!”

“Our experience with PEXA has been extremely positive. Our needs have been listened to and I’m thankful I got to bring the platform to new heights, literally.”
