How Settlement Works in PEXA Exchange

PEEXA Exchange brings every stage of the settlement process together in one secure digital workspace, helping practitioners manage documents, financial settlement and lodgement with
greater visibility and confidence.

Step 1 – Create your workspace

Open a PEXA Workspace and invite the relevant parties to collaborate on the transaction

Step 2 – Prepare and lodge documents

Complete the required documents, verify information and prepare the matter for settlement.

Step 3: Set up financial settlement schedule

Enter settlement funds, source account details and disbursements so every party can review and
approve the financial schedule before settlement.

Step 4: Digital signing by all parties

All parties digitally sign the required documents using PEXA’s secure signing process.

Step 5: Settle — funds transfer and title lodgement

On settlement, funds are exchanged electronically, and eligible documents are lodged with the
relevant land registry, completing the transaction online.

How long does a PEXA Settlement take? 

Settlement itself is typically completed within minutes once all parties are ready. Preparation time depends on the complexity of the matter and when participants complete their tasks.

When do funds clear after settlement?

Settlement funds are distributed electronically as part of settlement in accordance with the approved Financial Settlement Schedule.

What happens if settlement is delayed?

If a settlement cannot proceed as planned, parties are notified and can reschedule the transaction. Check the PEXA System Status page for any platform-related updates

What are PEXA settlement cut-off times?

Settlement cut-off times vary depending on jurisdiction and financial institution requirements. Refer to the PEXA Help Centre for current guidance. 

Using Workspaces in PEXA Exchange

Any PEXA Subscriber can open a PEXA Workspace. For more information on what a PEXA Workspace is and who can open one, please refer to the PEXA Help Centre article Creating a Workspace.

You can invite other parties to your PEXA Workspace to collaborate on your matters. More information on sending and accepting PEXA Workspace Invitations.

You can link multiple PEXA Workspaces together for simultaneous settlement and to allow funds to be moved between linked matters.

If a PEXA Workspace isn’t needed anymore, it can be deleted by the Participants in it. For more information on deleting PEXA Workspaces, please refer to the PEXA Help Centre article Withdrawing from a Workspace.

Managing Settlement Funds in PEXA Exchange

    PEXA source account

    Source accounts are used to provide settlement funds with PEXA Exchange. Practitioners can
    nominate approved source accounts as part of the Financial Settlement Schedule.

  • Source Account PEXA

    How to deposit funds into your PEXA source account

    Funds should be transferred into the nominated source account before settlement in accordance with
    your financial institution’s requirements and settlement timing.

  • Financial settlement schedule

    Financial settlement schedule

    The Financial Settlement Schedule (FSS) records all incoming and outgoing funds for a transaction, including disbursements, destination accounts and automatic credits. Every participant can review and approve the schedule before settlement proceeds.

  • PEXA corrective payments

    Corrective payments

    Where required, corrective payments can be processed following settlement to resolve approved adjustments.

PEXA Fees & Charges

PEXA fees apply to eligible electronic conveyancing transactions completed through PEXA Exchange. Fees vary depending on the transaction type and jurisdiction.

Whether PEXA fees are paid by the practitioner or passed on to the client depends on the individual matter and business arrangements.
