PEXA Certified program: participation in the online era is not restricted by a practitioner’s physical location

Regional lawyers and conveyancers are turning to digital technology to finalise property transactions and boost their credentials. In a nutshell they’re upskilling and potentially earning professional development points at the same time.

Thanks to a free training program offered by Property Exchange Australia – PEXA – (picture your very own remote personal trainer as you read this) participation in the online era is not restricted by a practitioner’s physical location.

More than 200 PEXA members are currently completing or have already completed the PEXA Certified program with a PEXA Virtual Specialist. The numbers are impressive. Since October 2016 over 1,000 transactions comprising in excess of 300 settlements have been completed.

The PEXA Virtual Specialist team remotely coach, support and troubleshoot as practitioners transition to 100% digital property transactions. Program participants mainly reside in regional areas.

Irrespective of a firm’s location the virtual program brings digital era credentials. Participants in the PEXA Certified program may be able to claim continuing professional development or CPD points (check with your professional regulator).

South Australian-based (SA) Bartel & Hall Barristers & Solicitors is one of the State’s top online transfer transactors and the first SA firm to become PEXA Certified.

Principal Conveyancer, Sue Bartel, explains that distance is no barrier to growing the business and gaining professional accreditation through the PEXA Certified Program.

“We had to make a decision last year to either embrace e-Conveyancing or risk our business falling behind,” Sue explains. “Not only that, but our firm is located over 80km from the nearest settlement room in Adelaide. If we can reduce those weekly trips, even better.” Bartel & Hall Solicitors didn’t hold back, diving straight into a transfer as their first online transaction with great success. As a result, they now hold the title of Top Transfer Transactor 2016 for online transactions in South Australia.

“PEXA’s training and support centre was amazing, especially our PEXA Virtual Specialist Amanda Soames. We joined the PEXA Virtual Training program to get the training we needed to become competent PEXA-users. Ultimately, we graduated the program and are now PEXA Certified. Amanda guided us through the four module PEXA Certified Program and helped us with any issues we encountered along the way,” added Sue.

How PEXA Certification works:

  • After completing learning modules conveyancers receive their certificate
  • CPD points are earned based on the number of hours worked
  • As a rough guide only, some firms are investing between five and 10 hours to earn certification
